For the series Five Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Became A CEO, Authority Magazine interviewed our longtime CEO Randy Carr about what he learned over the years to make him a better leader.  

Randy spoke with Doug Noll about becoming CEO after his father passed away in 2000, and how growing as a leader helped World Emblem ultimately become the largest supplier of embroidered emblems in the world.

From my perspective, there are four main parts to being an executive:

  1. Meeting with clients to learn how our business impacts them, and the ways we can help solve their pain points.
  2. Spending time with direct reports at all our locations to ensure alignment and progress on our goals.
  3. Visiting suppliers to make sure we are receiving the best possible service.
  4. Planning for the future, networking, and education.
