7 Things You Need to Know About Heat Sealing Apparel Decorations

May 21, 2019

In the past you may have used direct embroidery or patches to decorate corporate polos, activewear, uniforms, and other kinds of apparel. To give garments a more updated, polished look, FlexStyle emblems have become a more common approach. FlexStyle allows you to have a detailed logo that will look perfect on your garment, unlike embroidery where you may miss out on some fine details. Best of all, these are easily heat sealed onto garments using a heat press.

Here are some quick tips to ensure success in heat sealing your FlexStyle emblems.

Heat Sealing Apparel Decorations: Tips to Consider

  1. Not all heat presses are the same. Some take a little longer to heat up, others require more pressure. Knowing how your heat press reacts in different situations will save you a headache later.
  2. The measurements displayed in the gauges may not always be accurate, so calibrate the heat press beforehand. Contact your heat press manufacturer for specific calibration instructions.
  3. Keep a few extra decorations at hand if you’re working with a new material. Heat seal a test patch before production to ensure you’re using the right settings.
  4. It’s essential to have a flat surface at all times. And when mounting the garment, make sure it’s also flat and wrinkle-free.
  5. Take an extra moment to ensure the decoration is straight and on the right location.
  6. After application, check the integrity of the emblem. There should be a strong bond with the fabric.
  7. Do not stack garments on top of each  other immediately after application. This will not allow them to cool properly.
